PeaceHealth is seeking a Nurse Scientist for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position.

Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including 2 doses of a 2-dose series or 1 dose of a 1-dose series plus 14 days beyond the final dose prior to start date.

JOB SUMMARY

The Nurse Scientist develops, maintains, and evaluates nursing research and evidence-based practice (EBP) programs. Acts as a change agent and leader responsible for shaping a work environment to assure nursing practice is evidence-based and nursing knowledge is generated through research. Fosters a culture of inquiry to bridge the gap between research and practice by engaging nurses in research and EBP. Acts as a leader, mentor, and coach and provides guidance for the development of resources and infrastructure for nursing research and EBP programs. Provides support shared governance councils, workflow development and processes to meet program needs. Identifies and leads program improvements, leading network-level initiatives, and provides feedback and guidance for clinical nursing and nursing leaders. Has integral involvement and alignment to the goals of achieving and maintaining Magnet® designation and the organizations and nursing’s strategic plan. Responsible for the development and maintenance of their own program of research.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Shapes and implements a vision of nursing research and evidence-based practice.
  2. Provides consultation, mentors, educates, and guides nurse led EBP projects and research studies.
  3. Evaluates program outcomes and role models professional nursing practice behaviors measured through improved patient outcomes, increased efficiency, decreased cost, and enhanced visibility of SHMC research and evidence-based practice across SHMC RiverBend, locally, regionally, and nationally.
  4. Drafts, write sand edits scientific reports, papers, journal articles and abstracts
  5. Submits grants to support the integration of research and EBP.
  6. Provides expertise in design, development, analysis and dissemination of new knowledge and the use of evidence to support clinical practice.
  7. Serves on and/or lead relevant system-level Nursing and/or interprofessional workgroups and committees.
  8. Leads system-level EBP projects and research studies and conduct research, as the PI, within their own program of research.
  9. Coordinates efforts with other healthcare disciplines and departments to support improvement work and inquiry-based activities, including EBP projects and research studies, to advance professional nursing, clinical nursing practice, and processes.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required unless otherwise stated)

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Doctoral degree.
  • PhD preferred.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • Minimum three years of recent nursing experience.
  • Completion of Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) within six months of hire and as required.
  • Experience in developing nursing research and EBP, Magnet organization preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Licensed as Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
  • Certification in area of specialty or obtain certification within one year of employment.

  • Ability to establish external relationships and collaborative partnerships which facilitate teamwork and enhance nursing practice, research, and general scholarship at the local, network, system, state, and national level
  • Self-motivated, works autonomously and ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills; must be capable of making independent decisions
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and disciplines; must be a team player with great organizational skills, curiosity, and engagement
  • Ability to interact professionally, client facing, with executives, senior leadership, internal/external staff, providers, clinical nursing, consultants, and vendors
  • Ability to demonstrate command of research designs, methodologies, and ability to manage research studies both conceptually and practically within a data driven organization
  • Attention to detail, with strong organizational and analytical skills, with flexibility and ability to prioritize. Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, evaluate data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Proven critical thinking skills and the ability to consider outcomes when conducting research
  • Conflict management and group facilitation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities, projects, and display flexibility in a fast paced and changing work environment, including prioritization of work efforts
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Word and Excel; Strong skills with MS Outlook, Skype, OneNote, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, and SharePoint required
  • Knowledge and ability to use computer applications in analysis of data, writing, and presenting information
  • Knowledge of research-related ethics to support research and EBP process
