PeaceHealth is seeking a Oncology Review Specialist - Radiation Therapy for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position.  Hourly compensation starts at $19.37, more depending on experience.

Works with Oncology staff including, but not limited to, Radiation Therapists, Dosimetrists, Physicists, Physicians, support staff and professional services vendors to ensure all documentation and charges entered into the Radiation Therapy patient treatment and planning Electronic Medical Record (EMR) are entered accurately and in a timely manner. Works with PeaceHealth Revenue cycle team to address denials from payers regarding treatment and planning charges.

Details of the position:

  • Reviews all planning and treatment charges in the treatment and planning EMR and approves for crossover and billing in hospital EMR.
  • Reviews medical record documentation and accurate coding of the diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT4 coding conventions for the purpose of reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal regulations.
  • Performs prospective and retrospective EMR audits. Reviews all documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Investigates new coding policies and, if applicable, ensures that they are instituted in Radiation Oncology department.
  • Investigates billing system errors as a result of incorrect documentation, coding, medical necessity or charging. Follows through with Radiation Oncology department to ensure corrective action.
  • Works with IT department to ensure electronic billing interface is posting charges correctly.
  • With assistance from PeaceHealth revenue cycle team investigates payers’ denials and institutes appropriate course of action and develops process improvement if internal review coincides with payer denials to ensure appropriate reimbursement.
  • Works with PeaceHealth billing departments to resolve billing edits and billing inquiries.
  • Works with preauthorization staff to ensure correct diagnosis coding and appropriate authorizations are obtained prior to beginning treatment.
  • Ensures that all services are captured and charged and that all modifiers are correctly appended.
  • Remains current with CPT-4, ICD – 10-CM, HCPCS code updates and oncology Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) current standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you bring: 

  • Associate Degree in health care-related field preferred.
  • Successful completion of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology courses preferred.
  • Successful completion of coding certificate program and/or CPC program preferred.
  • Minimum of one year directly related work experience abstracting and coding information using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems required.
  • CPC-H, (Certified Coding Professional Hospital), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), CPC (Certified Coding Professional) or CPCH preferred.


  • Proficient use of computers including MS Office application specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work both independently and interdependently with staff, providers, and individuals outside of the Cancer Center to include other PeaceHealth Caregivers and individuals in the community with limited or no supervision.
  • Possess the analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analyses, and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems.
  • Detail oriented with ability to handle high volume of multiple tasks and follow through to completion.

Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including 2 doses of a 2-dose series or 1 dose of a 1-dose series plus 14 days beyond the final dose prior to start date.
