PeaceHealth is seeking a Director Planned Giving for a Full Time, Hybrid role. Must reside in Oregon, Washington, or Alaska.

JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Planned Giving will play an important role both in enhancing gift planning techniques at the foundations as a function of the PeaceHealth’s overall fundraising plan and in increasing the number of planned gifts and expected gift totals. This individual is responsible for building a pipeline of gift planning donors, working with colleagues to recognize and steward legacy donors; working with foundations to promote and increase planned gifts; and assisting front-line fundraisers with solicitations that involve planned giving and non-cash assets. The Director will have a portfolio and will be responsible for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding planned gift donors. In addition, the Director manages department personnel, which may include professional and support staff. The Director will develop and implement a strategic plan to enhance gift planning efforts as well as a comprehensive marketing and communications plan working with system team members, outside contractors, and vendors. This role will also develop and implement a recognition program to assist with the identification and stewardship of legacy donors. Through the office's efforts, gift planning will play a significant and growing role in the success of fund raising for PeaceHealth. This role serves as an expert or lead development professional in the specialized areas of gift planning and leadership gifts while maintaining a portfolio of donor prospects that include influential, complex, or highly rated donors. This individual is expected to raise gift amounts as established in annual and multi-year goals and is responsible for coordinating with other experts in legal and finance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develops, monitors and updates a comprehensive annual and long-range Planned Giving strategic plan including measurable goals and objectives for the system level planned giving program. Partner with local foundation on components of their strategic plan that involve Planned Giving to ensure fundraising success at all levels.
  2. Collaborate with foundation colleagues in areas of planned giving and complex current fund gifts, providing expertise and support when necessary. Work closely with gift officers to develop and implement gift planning strategies for estate and complex gifts that may involve non-cash assets such as closely held stock and real estate.
  3. Manage the overall success of the Planned Giving program, which includes successful planning, marketing, and budgeting and meeting goals. Set goals, develop strategies, and design procedures to achieve shared goals.
  4. Works with foundation leaders to assess fund raising needs, financial goals, current, local and national issues and comparative data factors related to activities for keys for success. Ensure that local foundation staff have training and competency building professional development opportunities around planned giving knowledge.
  5. Work with leadership and high-capacity prospects and donors of $100K+. Maintain a high value donor portfolio and secure gifts through qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding as appropriate
  6. Plan and administer marketing and outreach initiatives, including financial planning tools and education, through various mediums; supervise implementation and ensure articulated goals are met
  7. Partners with donor’s advisers to provide donors with legal and tax information regarding bequests and life income gifts.
  8. Works with PeaceHealth’s legal and finance departments to draft and review gift illustrations, legal and financial documentation. Ensures implementation of systems to avoid potential litigation risks related to planned giving.
  9. Identifies, cultivates, and educates financial professionals (attorneys, financial/estate planners, realtors) about PeaceHealth and its mission ton increase engagement.
  10. Oversees and manages the staff for a planned giving program includes recruitment, coaching, development, training and performance evaluations.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • MBA or JD preferred

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • 8 years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, with experience in planned giving, or similarly related experience
  • 5 years of leadership experience

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

  • CFRE certified, or willingness to achieve CFRE fundraising certification within the first two years of employment
  • CFPG certified or willingness to achieve CFPG fundraising certification within the first two years of employment

OTHER SKILLS

  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with diverse groups, including caregivers, physicians, donors, boards, volunteers and administrators
  • Ability to work in a matrixed complex business environment while maintaining effective working relationships with stakeholders and collaborators across the organization
  • Ability to lead and manage a team who reside in multiple localities
  • Team player who has a commitment to, upholding and demonstrating the values of PeaceHealth (Stewardship, Communication, Respect, Collaboration). Demonstrated self motivation and ability to advance work independently Ability to regularly travel within PeaceHealth service area (approx. once per month)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and meticulous attention to detail; the ability to set, negotiate, and meet priorities and produce high-quality work under multiple deadline pressure and within a busy environment
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills across mediums. Ability to customize communication strategies based on a wide range of audiences

Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including 2 doses of a 2-dose series or 1 dose of a 1-dose series plus 14 days beyond the final dose prior to start date.
