PeaceHealth is seeking a Surgical Support Aide - Operating Room for a Per Diem/Relief, 0.00 FTE, Day position. Responsible for assisting in tasks involving patient care and maintenance of the operating room. The primary focus is to help with set-up and efficient turnover of the operating rooms and caring for the instruments and equipment to be used during the surgical procedure.

 Hourly compensation is $17.06 – $30.05; hiring rate dependent on qualifications and professional experience and/or terms of Collective Bargaining Agreement.

DETAILS OF THE POSITION:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assist in pulling instruments and supplies for surgical procedures. Set up equipment for surgical procedure.
• Order and restock inventory and supplies for department. Stock and put supplies away in individual operating rooms.
• Clean, disinfect, and sterilize equipment. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.
• Provide assistance with moving and lifting patients. Transport patients.
• Transport specimens to appropriate area/unit.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING:

EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

• Previous experience with sterile/aseptic techniques preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.
• Six months of patient care experience required.
  

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

• CNA or Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire.

OTHER SKILLS:

• Well organized, detail oriented and self-motivated.
• Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others.
• Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications.
• Understanding of operating room protocols.

PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:

• Work requires active physical exertion at least 66% of the time.
• Ability to lift objects weighing 50 lbs. or less.
• Work requires frequent exposure to skin or lung irritants extreme cold or heat sharp instruments or, dangerous equipment; reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids once per month or more.
• Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (34-65% of work time).
