PeaceHealth is seeking a New Grad RN Inpatient for a Full Time, 0.90 FTE, Night position as part of our Nurse Residency Program. Start your career as a RN in ICU at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, where you’ll provide direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards.

This is an exciting opportunity for new graduate nurses to enter a program providing technical excellence as well as nursing excellence, compassionate care for our patients and community. The Nurse Residency Program provides a comprehensive transition to practice program offering interactive, evidence-based curriculum designed to build clinical skills and competency in patient outcomes, leadership and the professional nurse role. This is a 12-month program reflecting the Mission, Vision and Values of PeaceHealth.

Must be willing to agree to our Specialty RN Training Program Agreement stating commitment for a minimum of 3,640 hours after completion of successful orientation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
  2. Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
  3. Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
  4. Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
  5. Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Graduate of an accredited school/college of nursing.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Specialty certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • New graduate RN. New graduate is defined as less than 12 months since nursing school graduation (at time of application) and less than 6 months of acute care experience as an RN.
  • Some postings may be for an internship position and the following criteria will apply to those postings: Experienced or new grad RNS. If new grad, the RN will also be required to participate in the Nurse Residency Program.
  • Critical care nursing experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • WA State RN Licensure
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within a standard grace period from hire or transfer, as specified in the PeaceHealth Policy Resuscitation Training Completion Requirements.
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 12 months of hire.
  • Fundamentals of Critical Care Support (FCCS) certification preferred.
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification preferred.

OTHER SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment
  • Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy, and procedures
  • Basic computer skills

REGION/LOCATION SPECIFIC NOTES

Southwest Medical Center:

  • ICU – Management of ventriculostomy, EVD, and ICP. Nursing care of patients with non-traumatic ICH, non-traumatic SAH, seizures. Nursing care of patients post tPA, thrombectomy, aneurysm coiling, carotid artery stenting and intra-cranial stenting. Management of blood pressure abnormalities with parenteral vasoactive agents. Completion of complex neurological assessments/scales.

SOUTHWEST PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

  • Work requires active physical exertion up to 33% of the time.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 80 lbs. or less.
  • Work requires frequent exposure to minor cold, heat, poor ventilation, or sharp instruments. Reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids once per month or more.
  • Duties require the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail (more than 65% of work time).

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.
