PeaceHealth has opportunities available for a New Grad RN in the Emergency Department at St. John Medical Center. This is a .9 FTE position working three 12-hour night shifts each week in our 37 bed emergency department.

To be eligible: must be a new grad RN and participate in the Nurse Residency Program

**Nurses selected for the Nurse Residency Program will be obligated to work at PHSJ for a minimum of 24 months holding 0.8 FTE or higher with the first year working on the unit of hire. Failure to fulfill the months and FTE requirement will require that the RN reimburse PHSJ for up to $5,000 of education expenses. **

Provides professional nursing direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards. Promotes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach towards patients, families and all members of the care delivery team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
  2. Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
  3. Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
  4. Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
  5. Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Graduate of an accredited school/college of nursing.
  • BSN Preferred

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • New Graduate RNs, new graduate is defined as less than 12 months since nursing school graduation (at time of application) and less than 6 months of acute care experience as an RN.
      • Will also be required to participate in the Nurse Residency Program.
  • New Grad RN will also be required to participate in the Nurse Residency Program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • WA State RN Licensure
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 1 year of hire.
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHISS) within 6 months of hire.

OTHER SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment
  • Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy and procedures
  • Basic computer skills

REGION/LOCATON SPECIFIC NOTES:

Southwest Medical Center:

  • ED - Care of patient requiring reversal of anticoagulants, administration, and monitoring of TPA seizure management and emergent EVD. Management of blood pressure abnormalities with parenteral vasoactive agents.

SOUTHWEST PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

  • Work requires active physical exertion up to 33% of the time.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 80 lbs. or less.
  • Work requires frequent exposure to minor cold, heat, poor ventilation or sharp instruments. Reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids once per month or more.
  • Duties require the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail (more than 65% of work time).
