PeaceHealth is seeking a Graduate Nurse - Emergency Department for a Full Time, 0.90 FTE, Variable position. The general salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $25.83 – $38.74. The actual hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the job/position responsibilities, location, terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, education, training, work experience, seniority, work performance, etc.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for administering patient care that meets nursing standards. All job duties are performed in a manner that demonstrates PeaceHealth’s values of caring, respect and professional excellence toward patients, families, visitors, physicians, co-workers and volunteers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Provides patient care in a safe and timely manner. Works with the assigned RN/supervisor to receive assignments and resolve issues. Does not attempt to do procedures for which he/she is not qualified.
2. Develops and implements patient specific care plans and education as required by unit.
3. Addresses age-specific needs of individual patients.
4. Maintains multi-disciplinary communication to provide high-quality patient care.
5. Develops plan with unit manager to complete all competency requirements. Ensures own professional effectiveness through continued education and professional development.
6. Documents patient care, interventions and responses/actions in the patient care plan with accuracy, timeliness and legibility to ensure continuity of care.
7. Assists in the transporting of patients, specimens, supplies and equipment and in the maintenance and stocking of supplies and equipment to assure optimal functioning of the department.
8. Department safety and maintenance is ensured in a manner consistent with the hospital and department policies and procedures.
9. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

• Graduate of an accredited State Board of Nursing approved nursing program.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

• Must have the ability to work efficiently and responsibly in an environment with multiple work demands and short time frames.
• Commensurate with educational preparation demonstrates knowledge of and ability to apply age-specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient's needs for nursing care.
• Computer knowledgeable.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

• Temporary Registered Nurse (TRN) or Temporary Licensed Practical Nurse (TLPN) permit is required in Alaska
• BLS required

OTHER SKILLS:

Must have cooperative.

REGION/LOCATION SPECIFIC NOTES

Alaska:

• Temporary permit will be invalid once results of the board examination are issued to the licensing board.
• Unsuccessful completion of the board examination invalidates all position criteria including position and wage. If this occurs, the applicant may choose to apply for other positions qualified for.

KETCHIKAN PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:

• Work requires moderate physical exertion from 34 to 65% of the time.
• Ability to lift objects weighing 50 lbs. or less.
• Work requires frequent exposure to minor cold, heat, poor ventilation or sharp instruments.
• Reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids once per month or more. Requires the use of a Powered Air Purifying System (PAPR).
• Duties require the ability to concentrate or pay close attention to detail for more than 66% of the work time.
