PeaceHealth is seeking a Unit Coordinator - Anesthesia Pre-op for a Part Time, 0.60 FTE, Variable position. The general salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $18.14 – $32.43. The actual hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the job/position responsibilities, location, terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, education, training, work experience, seniority, work performance, etc.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.

Job Summary

Provides a variety of unit support functions that contribute to the overall efficient operations of the patient care unit. This position is responsible for preparing, compiling and maintaining patient and operational records in the unit. Performs general secretarial and clerical duties. Acts as a liaison between patient, visitors and caregivers to facilitate communication and resolution of concerns.

Essential Functions

  • Perform a variety of support work for the unit including but not limited to: coordinating all paperwork and records, pre-admission, receiving admitted patients; initiating patient files; taking action on physician orders; process discharges orders, transfers and expirations; prepare hospital statistical records. May process daily charges and charge corrections. May update staffing and communication board. May assist with care coordination such as chaplain service, scheduling diagnostic orders, creating charts and writing thank you notes.
  • Maintain and order unit supplies and equipment. Re-stock items as needed.
  • Manage multiple phone calls and threads of communication. Answer and/or direct inquiries for caregivers and visitors. May call caregivers in from On-Call.
  • Provide clerical support for transcription and medical records maintenance.
  • May orient patients and visitors to room, unit and hospital environment, assist with comfort items in collaboration with other health team members and escalating identified needs to other team members as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Preferred: Medical terminology and completion of unit secretary/ward clerk course.
  • Accredited Secondary Education Program Preferred: Hospitality Management.

Experience

  • Minimum of six months of clerical and/or secretarial experience.
  • Experience in a medical related environment or completed course for unit secretaries preferred.
  • Computerized health records software experience preferred.

Credentials

  • Certified Administrative Professional preferred.

Skills

  • Excellent organizational and computer skills, including being proficient in keyboarding and comfortable using MS Office applications. (Required)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills (Required)
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written (Required)
  • Sufficient knowledge of English, spelling and math (Required)
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment (Required)

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).
  • Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
  • Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
  • Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.
  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
