PeaceHealth is seeking a Pathology Specialist Lead for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The general salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $28.95 – $43.43. The actual hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the job/position responsibilities, location, terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, education, training, work experience, seniority, work performance, etc.

Job Summary

Responsible for coordinating the day-to-day functions for assigned area throughout the Pathology department. In addition, responsible for cross training and delegating Pathology Specialists as needed in each pathology department. Assists with ensuring that departmental goals are achieved, timelines are met, and service excellence is provided in all aspects of work. Subject matter expert for the work unit, which is responsible for support for the Pathology department. Utilizes the pathology lab information system to assist pathology staff and clients. Provides support for cytology department, client services, pathology transcriptionists and send-outs. Understands Anatomic Pathology processes to ensure effective operations and communications. Provides manger with departmental statistics.

Essential Functions

  • Assign work; plan and manage priorities, provide technical assistance, oversee staff schedules, monitor quality of work, monitor team projects, mentor staff, provide constructive feedback, oversee staff training, ensure quality improvement, provide leadership feedback on staff performance, and assist with goal setting for the team.
  • Coordinates send-out testing for department.
  • Accessions pathology specimens.
  • Organizes and provides reports on a timely basis to Laboratory Manager as requested.
  • Assists pathology department with managing supplies for department and customers.
  • Assists with collection and/or processing of pathology and cytology samples.
  • Transcribes assigned dictation as needed of pathology reports.
  • Assists clients with receiving pathology reports.
  • Provides IS support to the LIS analyst and acts as super-user within the department.
  • Assists with department quality assurance tasks, billing, and statistics.
  • Maintains compliance with all department safety and compliance regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma Required or equivalent
  • Associate Degree Preferred

Experience

  • less than 1 year Required: Experience as a Pathology Specialist.

Skills

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (Required)
  • Experience with Epic Beaker AP (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (Required)
  • Good communication skills (Required)
  • Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making skills (Required)
  • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently (Required)
  • Ability to work in distracting environment and under pressure (Required)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and use of department resource materials (Required)

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment, frequently.
  • Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 5 lbs.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 10 lbs. force.
  • Reaching frequently.
  • Squat/ kneel occasionally.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
