Nurse Midwife Lead opportunity available with PeaceHealth Medical Group at St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, Washington.

Job Summary

Responsible for coordinating the day-to-day functions for assigned area. Assists with ensuring that departmental goals are achieved, timelines met and service excellence provided in all aspects of midwifery work. Subject matter expert. Provides direct clinical services and management of mothers and babies as defined in the standing orders, policies, procedures and protocols for the certified nurse midwife.

Essential Functions

  • Assigns work; plans and manages priorities; provides technical assistance; oversees midwife schedules and coordination assistance with staff schedules; monitors quality of work; monitors team projects; mentors staff; provides constructive feedback; oversees staff training; ensures quality improvement; participates in physician leadership meetings, provides leadership feedback on staff performance; and assists with goal setting for team.
  • Obtains patient health histories and complete physical examinations. Documents findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings. Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
  • Performs approved therapeutic procedures based upon patient’s clinical status. Documents patient preparation and response to procedure(s).
  • Collaborates with physician and nursing colleagues and document in medical records and appropriate narrative summaries.
  • Assess educational needs, plans, provides, and evaluates educational programs for nursing staff, interdisciplinary healthcare team, and community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Accredited School of Nursing Required: Nursing. or
  • Accredited Program Required: Nurse Midwifery.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year Required: experience as Certified Nurse Midwife and
  • Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs and
  • Preferred: Previous leadership experience

Credentials

  • Required : Registered Nurse Midwife in the state of practice or ability to obtain within credentialing/onboarding, and
  • Required : Current ARNP license or
  • Required : Certified Nurse Midwife issued by the AMCB (American Midwifery Certification Board) and
  • Required within 30 Days: Basic Life Support or
  • Required within 30 Days: Advanced Cardiac Life Support or
  • Required within 30 Days: Pediatric Advanced Life Support

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment (Required)
  • Basic computer skills including MS Office applications (Required)
  • Effective prioritization skills (Required)

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Midwife: Ability to move around area with occasional sitting. Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices. Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching kneeling frequently. Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.

Environmental Conditions

  • Midwife: Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
