The System VP Pharmacy leads acute care pharmacy services across PeaceHealth. Develops long and short-term business strategies related to pharmacy operations and oversees their implementation. Manages the development, design, structure, and implementation of pharmacy initiatives to improve medication safety, clinical effectiveness, stewardship of resources within the pharmacy domain. Leads quality, service, and regulatory compliance in hospital-based pharmacy services. Provides direct operational oversight of all PeaceHealth inpatient Pharmacy sites and provides leadership to their managers and Directors. Collaborates with system ambulatory pharmacy leadership through a matrixed relationship. Focuses on integration of pharmacy practices, resource coordination, and standardization of practice to achieve a One PeaceHealth orientation in pharmacy services. Establishment and ongoing monitoring of key operational and performance metrics within the pharmacy domains. Works as a dyad partner to the System Director of Pharmacy Supply Chain and 340b programs. Works closely with system VP of Strategy to align pharmacy partnerships in specialty drug and infusion programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manages operational performance of Pharmacy Services. Develops and implements system pharmacy operational planning and decision-making processes in collaboration with local administrative leadership in a matrix management model, by identifying opportunities to improve medication use, provide direction on the use of pharmaceuticals, and promote the appropriate use of related technology.
- Oversees the design, implementation and management of a safe and effective medication use system. Ensures medication systems incorporate continuous improvement methodologies in order to operate effectively across the entire continuum of care. Develops plans for the continued operation of medication-use systems and provision of services during emergencies and disasters.
- Provides subject matter expertise for current and future state pharmacy processes and the design of CareConnect, inclusive of medication ordering, filling, and dispensing; intravenous pump medication dispensing integration; and pricing and billing functions.
- Ensures pharmacists are positioned to improve the quality and safety of medication use throughout the system through involvement in all medication improvement activities and by insuring pharmacy services meet patient care needs while providing safe, effective, and economical drug therapies.
- Co-chairs the system P&T committee and collaborates with physician leadership to develop drug-utilization and formulary initiatives that optimize therapeutic outcomes and ensure the use of cost-effective pharmacotherapy throughout the system. Identifies inappropriate utilization and leads efforts to modify practices to improve medication use.
- Ensures continued compliance with all national, State, and local regulations related to medications and their use. Participates in surveys and visits from accrediting bodies, regulatory agencies, and Department of Health inquiries when necessary.
- Manages system human resources efforts by determining appropriate number of staff required to meet patient care needs, satisfy regulatory and accrediting requirements, and achieve the system mission.
- Manages the system pharmacy’s financial performance, develops budgets aligned with organizational and departmental objectives and monitors financial performance appropriately.
- Partners with System Director of Pharmacy supply chain and 340b programs to ensure optimal medication procurement, contracting, receiving, security, inventory control, and distribution.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION REQUIRED
- Bachelor, Master, or Doctor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited school of Pharmacy.
- Master's Degree in Business or Healthcare Administration.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Minimum of 10 years of pharmacy leadership experience at least 3 of which should be at a system level rather than single facility.
- Completion of an accredited Pharmacy residency.
CREDENTIALS REQUIRED
- Upon Hire: Pharmacist - Washington or Oregon
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Ability to understand and align day to day work with the PeaceHealth mission, core values and leadership model and reflect the leadership model attributes.
- Skilled at negotiation and collaborating across and with diverse key stakeholders.
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $302,600 – $405,100. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
