Job Description


PeaceHealth is seeking an experienced ICU nurse for a new job opportunity at PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center in Ketchikan, Alaska. The hospital is licensed beds: 25. The ICU has four beds with other rooms that can be converted for more if necessary. We have Full time and variable shift positions. You will work in a dynamic and supportive team environment. Benefits and requirements include:

• Starting wage of $36.38 an hour, more with experience

• Differential - Evening $2.50, and Night $5.00 of the base union rate, $1.00/hour for BSN/MSN (one for each)

• A minimum of 1 year of clinical experience as a Staff Nurse

• A 1-year ICU experience strongly preferred.

• Current AK State RN license, BLS, and ACLS Cert at the date of hire

• PALS, Telemetry, 12 Lead EKG Basics within a grace period

Provides professional nursing direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards. Promotes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach towards patients, families and all members of the care delivery team.


  1. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
  2. Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
  3. Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
  4. Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
  5. Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing required.
  • BSN preferred.


A minimum of 1 year clinical experience as a Staff Nurse or will orient to point of competency.


  •  State of Alaska RN license.
  •  BLS and ACLS Certifications at date of hire.
  •  PALS Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Telemetry required within 90 days of hire.
  • 12 Lead EKG Basics required within 12 months of hire.
  • CCRN preferred.


  • Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment
  • Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy and procedures
  • Basic computer skills


  • Work requires active physical exertion from 34 to 65% of the time.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 50 lbs. or less.
  • Work requires frequent exposure to minor cold, heat, poor ventilation or sharp instruments. Reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids once per month or more. Requires the use of a Powered Air Purifying System (PAPR).
  • Duties require the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail (more than 66% of work time).
