Job Description


PeaceHealth is seeking a Recreation Therapist - Psychiatry for a Part Time, Day position.  Hourly compensation starts at $27.78, more depending on experience.


Provides recreational services to patients and families.Responsible for assisting in the planning, supervision, implementation, and evaluation of the Therapeutic Recreation program which includes activities of a physical, functional, social and cultural nature.Works as part of the healthcare team to assist patients to maximize their potential.


  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care needs as it relates to therapeutic recreation.
  • Documents patient care in health record according to standards.
  • Participates in process improvement activities.
  • Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
  • Responsible for recreation therapy program development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree curriculum with an emphasis in therapeutic recreation required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.


  • Training and experience commensurate with certification requirements


  • Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation is required.
  • Current credential as required by State to perform the work of a Recreation Therapist.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license if position requires.


  • Proficient in a variety of computer applications
  • Knowledge of the theories and concepts of therapeutic recreation, leisure, social psychology, and human development
  • Knowledge of the diversity of the population including the cultural and diagnostic groups served
  • Demonstrated understanding of the assessment processes utilized within the therapeutic recreation practice


For Rehab positions:Experience with neurological patients in a hospital setting or experience working with a disabled population is preferred.Must have completed successful field work experience.Knowledge of community’s leisure and support opportunities helpful.


  • Work requires active physical exertion frequently from 34% to 65% of the time.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or more.
  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.
  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration or attention to detail for 34-65% of the work time.
