PeaceHealth is seeking a part-time Transcriptionist for the  Pathology department at Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington.  This is a day shift position that will work 20 hours per week.   Hourly compensation starts at $17.97, more depending on experience.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for transcribing/editing dictated medical material using transcription or word processing equipment.This may include histories and physicals; operative reports; pathology, radiology, laboratory reports; discharge summaries and physician progress/consultation notes, therapy evaluations and discharges.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Transcription/editing of medical dictation.
  • Researching and obtaining clarification to assure accurate and complete documentation.Appropriately amending documents per department guidelines.
  • Providing immediate transcription in instance of urgency.
  • Providing support and research for all record copies, routes copies electronically for signatures in a timely manner.
  • Duplicate documents as directed and provide to outside individuals or agencies.
  • May answer telephone and provide routine information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Graduate of an accredited medical transcription course with a strong knowledge in medical terminology.Level of Associate’s Degree preferred or a combination of education and experience that provides the caregiver with the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • Minimum of one year transcription experience preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred.Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) preferred.

OTHER SKILLS:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including English usage, grammar, punctuation and style
  • Ability to operate designated word processing, dictation and transcription equipment.Proficient keyboarding skills
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Ability to understand diverse accents and dialects and varying dictation styles
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and under pressure with time constraints
