PeaceHealth is seeking a Litigation Paralegal - Risk Management Claims for a Full Time position.  Hourly compensation starts at $31.18, more depending on experience.

JOB SUMMARY

Performs paralegal duties in civil litigation associated with tort claims, breach of contract, and equitable claims for employment law, personal injury, battery, negligence, defamation, fraud, professional liability, health law, and medical malpractice. Professional liability and medical malpractice defense will be the primary areas of work focus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Completes legal research as request by internal and external customers, including internet and other forms of computerized research.
  • Prepares, organizes and files documents.
  • Conducts research on document searches and other factual research.
  • Coordinates work with key stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Develops factual and clinical timelines of cases.
  • Prepares witness and matter materials for case preparation.
  • Organizes relevant documents for attorney review and case preparation.
  • Prepares for and attends depositions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Completion of an accredited paralegal training program preferred (or other healthcare related experience , such as RN) .


EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • Minimum of five years of practice as a paralegal with specialized healthcare litigation experience (or RN experience).


OTHER SKILLS:

  • Proficient in MS Office applications, with an emphasis in Word, Excel and Access databases.
  • Experience with online information services and retrieval.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects and display flexibility in a fast paced and changing work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality.

PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work requires fairly light physical exertion from up to 65% of the time.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less.
  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.
  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (up to 65% of work time).
