PeaceHealth is passionate about growing the palliative care and hospice services in Southwest Washington. The PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center Palliative Care team is dedicated to easing the fears, anxieties, and discomforts that occur during the advanced stages of illness. The partnering hospitalists and specialists are familiar with palliative medicine, and they are eager for more on-the-ground resources to meet their patients’ needs. Southwest Medical Center (SWMC) provides comprehensive specialty care for more than 280,000 patients annually in Southwest Washington. One of Clark County’s largest employers, PeaceHealth Southwest offers dozens of medical specialty services and programs.

The Medical Director will be responsible for operational leadership for all palliative care services within the assigned region. Provides clinical leadership and expertise within the palliative care clinical team. Proactively identifies opportunities to improve the experience, efficiencies, and effectiveness of care for patients and families as well as the use of resources. Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory, policies, and procedures. Acts as a point person for palliative care education. The ideal candidate will be BC/BE in Hospice & Palliative Care, with experience in outpatient and inpatient settings.


Experience & Training Required:

  • Experience and success in leading and facilitating groups of physicians
    • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience beyond board certification with the preference of one (1) year of administrative experience.
    • Minimum of one (1) year working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
    • Management and leadership experience is preferred.

  • Hospital consult physician position. This role focuses on the inpatient unit, and it will also have oversight for the outpatient program.
  • Join a growing team of providers at SWMC, with a daily inpatient census of 40-60 patients, and support from multiple trained clinicians, including NPs, RNs, and MSWs.
    • Close partnership with our sister hospital St. John Medical Center 45 minutes north of Vancouver.
    • This group has one MD and one NP.
  • The on-site complex case management team, ethics partner, hospital chaplain, and including a partnership with the Ray Hickey Hospice House
  • Opportunity to grow the service line within the region
  • Schedule: Five days weekly, with one of those days being administrative, and no call
