Job Description


PeaceHealth is seeking Registered Nurses for a Labor & Delivery Internship position at St. John Medical Center in Longview, Washington.  This is a .9 FTE Night Shift position working three 12-hour shifts each week in our 12 suite LRDP model Birth Center.  Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including 2 doses of a 2-dose series or 1 dose of a 1-dose series plus 14 days beyond the final dose prior to start date.

This training program is 6 months in length and will train on both day and night shift. 

To be eligiblemust be an RN new to Labor & Delivery OR  a new grad RN with senior practicum and/or clinical rotation in Labor & Delivery.

Provides professional nursing direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards. Promotes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach towards patients, families and all members of the care delivery team.


  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
  • Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
  • Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
  • Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
  • Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Graduate of an approved school/college of nursing required.
  • BSN or current enrollment in BSN program preferred.
  • Specialty certification preferred.


  • Experienced or new grad RNS.  If new grad, the RN will also be required to participate in the Nurse Residency Program.

  • Previous obstetrical services, mother/baby or acute care experience (may include senior practicum) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient's needs.


  • Current WA State Registered Nurse licensure.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire.
  • NRP and STABLE within one year of hire
  • Certification specific to clinical area preferred


  • Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment
  • Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy and procedures
  • Basic computer skills


  • Work requires fairly light physical exertion 34% to 65% of the time.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less.
  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.
  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (34-65% of work time).
