PeaceHealth is seeking an experienced RN for a temporary job opportunity at PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center in Ketchikan, Alaska. This position is for an RN in the Short Stay Unit, temporary position, 1.0 FTE, day shift. Base rate of pay starts at $37.11 an hour, more with experience.

PeaceHealth Ketchikan is a licensed 25 bed hospital. The OR has five beds (3 main OR, 1 minor procedure and 1 GI suite). We average about 130 cases a week. This is a self-scheduling unit that is team oriented!

JOB SUMMARY

Provides professional nursing direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards.Promotes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach towards patients, families, and all members of the care delivery team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
  2. Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
  3. Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
  4. Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
  5. Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing required.
  • BSN preferred.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • A minimum of one year clinical experience as a Pre-op/PACU RN
  • One year clinical experience as an OR Staff RN preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • State of Alaska RN license required
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire.
  •  ACLS required at time of hire
  • PALS certification required within 6 months of hire.

  • Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment
  • Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy, and procedures
  • Basic computer skills

REGION/LOCATION SPECIFIC NOTES:

Ketchikan Medical Center

  • Nurse may be required to float between Obstetrics and Regional Infusion Center units as requested/required and maintain competencies for both units.

KETCHIKAN PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work requires moderate physical exertion from 34 to 65% of the time.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 50 lbs. or less.
  • Work requires frequent exposure to minor cold, heat, poor ventilation or sharp instruments. Reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids once per month or more.Requires the use of a Powered Air Purifying System (PAPR).
  • Duties require the ability to concentrate or pay close attention to detail for more than 66% of the work time.
