Job Description


PeaceHealth is seeking candidates for our Labor & Delivery Training Program at St. John Medical Center in Longview, Washington.  Our 12 Suite Birth Center is a LDRP model, so will train to both Mom-Baby and Labor & Delivery.

    • This is a .9 FTE Night Shift position that will work 12-hour shifts
    • The training program is approximately 6 months, will primarily train on day shift 
    • Hourly compensation starts at $40.02, more depending upon RN experience and advanced degree
    • Comprehensive benefits package including tuition reimbursement and CE

    To be eligible 

  • Must be a RN new to the specialty with at least 1 year of RN work experience OR  may consider a new grad who has been selected for the nurse residency program.

    **Nurses selected for this program will be obligated to work in the Peacehealth St. John Labor & Delivery Department for a minimum of 24 months holding 0.6 FTE or higher, from the end date of successful completion of the training program. Failure to fulfill the months and FTE requirement will require that the RN reimburse PHSJ for up to $5,000 of education expenses. **

    Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including 2 doses of a 2-dose series or 1 dose of a 1-dose series plus 14 days beyond the final dose prior to start date.


    Position details:

    · Provides professional nursing direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards

    · Promotes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach towards patients, families and all members of the care delivery team.

    · Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.

    · Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.

    · Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.

    · Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.

    · Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.

    · Performs other duties as assigned.


    • Graduate of an accredited school/college of nursing, BSN preferred
    • Two years RN experience in a labor & delivery unit required. Some postings may be for a training program and the following criteria will apply to those postings: Experienced RN new to specialty requires 1-year RN work experience and will be required to participate in the Nurse Fellowship Labor & Delivery programRN with less than 1-year experience will be required to participate in the Nurse Residency Program
    • Previous OB experience or senior practicum in L&D are preferred. 
    •  Current Washington Registered Nurse licensure & Current AHA Provider BLS
    • NRP & STABLE required within one year of hire

    Other Skills:

    • Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment
    • Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy and procedures
    • Basic computer skills


  • Work requires active physical exertion up to 33% of the time.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 80 lbs. or less.
  • Work requires frequent exposure to minor cold, heat, poor ventilation or sharp instruments. Reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids once per month or more.
  • Duties require the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail (more than 65% of work time).
